Pneumococci in the Urine
نویسنده
چکیده
most interesting were those having all the characteristic appearances of Fraenkel's pneumococcus. The preparation was stained by Gram's method, and it will be noticed that a clear capsule exists round the diplococci, which are in single pairs and in chains. The organism which is generally known as Fraenkel's pneumococcus was discovered by Sternberg and Pasteur in 1880. It was found by Fraenkel in his own sputum in 1885.

Diagnosis of invasive pneumococcal infection by serotype-specific urinary antigen detection.
Widespread use of conjugate pneumococcal polysaccharide-protein vaccines may alter the spectrum of pneumococci producing invasive disease. Novel sensitive diagnostic methods would be valuable for monitoring the epidemiology of pneumococcal disease within populations and vaccine recipients. Ideally, these methods should allow determination of the serotype of the infecting clone. Serotype-specifi...
متن کاملClinical Pharmacology of Ciprofloxacin in Neonates: Effects and Pharmacokinetics
Ciprofloxacin is the most commonly used fluoroquinolone. Ciprofloxacin is prescribed for 1 in 44 Americans. Ciprofloxacin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal antibiotic, effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, being especially active against the Enterobacteriacae, including many microorganisms resistant to penicillins, cephalosporins and aminoglycosides, and also is effect...
متن کاملThe Passage of Type Iii Rabbit Virulent Pneumococci from the Vascular System into Joints and Certain Other Body Cavities
1. Within 24 hours following intravenous inoculation with rabbit virulent strains of pneumococcus Type III, most rabbits develop infections of one or both knees. The frequency of bilateral knee joint involvement increases as the duration of the disease is prolonged. 2. The spinal fluid, aqueous humor, and bladder urine remain sterile at a time when the knee joints contain pneumococci. Subsequen...
متن کاملPneumococcal interaction with human dendritic cells: phagocytosis, survival, and induced adaptive immune response are manipulated by PavA.
Dendritic cells (DCs) ingest and process bacteria for presenting their Ags to T cells. PavA (pneumococcal adherence and virulence factor A) is a key virulence determinant of pneumococci under in vivo conditions and was shown to modulate adherence of pneumococci to a variety of nonprofessional phagocytic host cells. Here, we demonstrated the role of PavA for the interaction of human DCs with liv...
متن کاملSerological Relationships of Type-specific and Degraded Pneumococci
1. Immune sera prepared with the degraded or variant forms of pneumococci (R strains) are similar in their reactions to sera prepared with the protein or cell solutions of pneumococci. They contain antibodies reactive with the protein of all types of pneumococci, but no antibodies reactive with the type-specific substances. 2. Pneumococci of the variant or R form, regardless of type derivation,...
